As the year comes to a close, we want to take a moment to say thank you!❤️❤️❤️
Since March 2022, over 1,450 hosts matched directly by team HIH have opened their homes to provide shelter for 3,000 guests. Thousands more have stepped up in their own ways - connecting locally, online, through their Local Authority, or with partners like the Irish Red Cross, IOM, and Peter McVerry Trust. Today, across Ireland, more than 17,000 households are providing temporary homes to over 33,000 displaced people from Ukraine through the ARP scheme.
These numbers reflect an extraordinary effort of welcome and humanity, one that has brought safety, connection, and dignity to families and individuals when they needed it most.
Your kindness has also reached beyond Ukraine. This year, some of you have opened your doors to people fleeing conflict in Gaza, Syria, and other regions, without financial support or recognition. These quiet acts of generosity are seeds we hope to nurture at HIH as we look to the future.
The war in Ukraine continues, and uncertainty remains - for those displaced, for those hosting, and for the world we share. Hosting is not always easy, but it matters deeply. It has shown us what’s possible when communities respond together. The lessons we’ve learned - about welcome, connection, and solidarity - will not be lost. They will guide us as we work to strengthen this movement and ensure Ireland remains a place of refuge, no matter where people come from or why they must leave home.
As we enter a new year, we look forward to building on what we’ve all achieved together, growing stronger as a community, and finding new ways to offer hope and refuge to those who need it.
